|Magnificat [Latin]||Priest||Magnificat [Vulgate]|
|Magnificat anima mea Dominum,|
et exsultavit spiritus meus in
Deo salvatore meo,
quia respexit humilitatem
Ecce enim ex hoc beatam me
dicent omnes generationes,
quia fecit mihi magna,
qui potens est,
et sanctum nomen eius,
et misericordia eius in progenies et progenies
Fecit potentiam in brachio suo,
dispersit superbos mente
deposuit potentes de sede
et exaltavit humiles;
esurientes implevit bonis
et divites dimisit inanes.
Suscepit Israel puerum suum,
sicut locutus est ad patres nostros,
Abraham et semini eius in saecula.
Glória Patri et Fílio
et Spirítui Sancto.
Sicut erat in princípio,
et nunc et semper,
et in sæcula sæculórum.
|My soul doth magnify the Lord.|
And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
For he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid;
Behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
Because he that is mighty,
hath done great things to me;
and holy is his name.
And his mercy is from generation unto generations,
to them that fear him.
He hath shewed might in his arm:
he hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.
He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble.
He hath filled the hungry with good things;
and the rich he hath sent empty away.
He hath received Israel his servant,
being mindful of his mercy:
As he spoke to our fathers,
to Abraham and to his seed for ever.
Glory be to the Father, to the Son,
And to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning,
is now and ever shall be,
world without end.
Aliases: Father Alexander Anderson(g), Father Anderson, Paladin Anderson, Executioner Anderson, Bayonet Anderson, Angel Dust Anderson (Dust to Dust Anderson in the OVA), Off With Its Head Anderson (OVA only), Assassin Anderson, Regenerator Anderson, Killing Judge Anderson, Judas Priest
Age: Unknown. Approx. Early to Mid 60's. Appears to be in his 40's.
History: Very little is actually revealed about Father Anderson's background. Other than his name, virtually all aspects of his history are unknown. (In fact, the Hellsing archives—which are quite extensive—detail only his name and his reputation as a professional exorcist; As Sir Integra put it: He is “An assassin specially trained to deal with heathens and heretics.”) It has been speculated that because of his prior experience with combatant tactics that he might have held mercenary or even military affiliations at one point and time in his past. This would indirectly tie in with his prototype in “Angel Dust”, a Hentai manga where Alexander Anderson is depicted as a Mafia assassin who tries to escape from the police after being betrayed by the organization he works for. However, given that Hirano has made no definite links to his past, his true origins cannot be determined.
“Place of birth unknown. Age unknown. Even his origins remain unknown. The only fact that we can nail down is that he is an expert monster hunter. In much the way Alucard is our best line of supernatural defense, Anderson can reasonably be described as the finest agent Vatican's Section XIII has to offer.” ~ Walter, OVA I.
“Iscariot: The Vatican's special operations unit. The most powerful agents the Vatican commands. Professional exorcists. Assassins trained to deal with heathens and heretics. They're working under Section XIII. A black operations unit.” ~ Sir Hellsing, OVA I.
There appears to be two aspects to his personality: The Paladin & Father Anderson.
“The Paladin Monster Slayer. The Purifier...” ~ Sir Hellsing, OVA I.
If anything is discernible about this tool of God, it is that he is seven feet of pure, raw instinct. Every part of him throbs with excitement when he gives himself over to the thrill of the hunt, taking an almost primal sense of delight in the fear and trembling of his adversaries. Like Alucard, Paladin Andersong thrives off of bloodshed and needless violence, having a sanguine nature that make him a very formidable opponent indeed. He fights with Hellish ferocity, putting every ounce of strength into carrying out his mission regardless of any obstacle that might present itself.
Cruelty and a sadistic glee guide the Assassin's hand, his arsenal of blessed weaponry used to inflict as much agony as possible. Merely destroying the creatures of the damned won't do—No; Every fibre of their being must be made to suffer until they scream in anguish, begging for a mercy that won't present itself unless they draw their dying breath. As a more appropriate illustration of how much he enjoys making them helpless, one has only to take into account the very first time Agent Andersong laid eyes on Alucard in Northern Ireland. While he cuts down the master Vampire swiftly, he takes his time with dear Seras, toying with his prey before going in for the kill. He even reassures her that she wasn't going to die—that he had made sure not to pierce her heart.
“Heheheh. Your voice sounds so lovely when you're whimpering in agony.”
(When he first appears, he briefly mentions his encounter with the vampire Hellsing was originally supposed to encounter: “What happened to the vampire that was here?” “He's dead. Wasn't much fun really. Didn't even have time to enjoy it.”)
As a devout Catholic, this slayer of monsters isn't exactly the type of individual you'd want to be alone with in a dark alley. He compulsively quotes passages from the Bible, often incorporating a fanatical belief system into his words as well as actions. Serving the Lord and the Catholic Church are his obsession. Created with the finest anti-freak technology Iscariot has to offer, the Regenerator is on a Crusade, bent on destroying any who defy the Word of God. He sees himself as a Divine Punisher, and seeks to implement Justice over those who are inherently “evil.”
(Note: Classified as highly dangerous and unstable. Do not approach! )
While he appears to be intimidating on the surface, this Catholic Priest actually displays more level-headed qualities than that of his superiors. When he isn't on call as an Exorcist, Father Alexander Anderson spends his leisure time running an orphanage just outside of Rome. He has been described as having a calm and collected demeanour when taking care of the children, and is well liked within the civilian community. Anderson can be very kind when dealing with the innocent, never having to employ a harsh word or deed in his interactions with normal people. When a prostitute passes him on the street for instance, he does not judge them, instead merely offering the words “God bless you.” In fact, the man is something of a gentle giant when in his natural environment, under normal circumstances no one would ever suspect that this quiet, well-respected member of the clergy could ever be capable of rendering his enemies to bloody bits.
Unlike his former personality, the Priest is a patient sort, given to being a fine teacher for the young Catholics of his parish. (He even raised Yumie, Heinkel, and Enrico in their younger days, doing the best he could to employ a sense of decency on them.) His knowledge of the Scripture is profound, giving him the ability to advise wisely in spiritual matters, as well as administer the Sacraments as pertaining to his holy office. The good Father dedicates himself to the quiet of prayer both inside the Church and out, proving to be dedicated in his Faith as well as extremely loyal to Iscariot's cause. Whereas Paladin is impulsive, Father Anderson proves to be a man of tact and diplomacy, with a sense of strict morals that prevent him from doing anything that he considers to be wrong. Despite his grudge against Protestants even, he displays respect for Integra's convictions, and even offers to walk her back to Hellsing's headquarters simply for the fact that it is impolite to leave a lady to walk on her own.
